The FDU 16-1 upset of Purdue has so many stories going for it, that it's almost impossible to believe:

- Purdue has now lost to a 16, 15, and 13 seed in its last 3 tournament appearances
- That includes last year as a 2 seed to another small New Jersey School (St. Peters)
- Purdue had the probable national player of the year on their team
- That player is 7-4!
- FDU had the smallest team in the tournament, averaging just 6-3
- Was the first ever NCAA tournament win for the Northeast Conference
- The star player of the game for FDU (Sean Moore) was born in Columbus, OH, and the game was played in Columbus, OH
- FDU was a 23.5 underdog, and became the greatest upset winning in NCAA tournament history
- And here's the kicker: FDU didn't even win its conference tournament, the team that won it (Merrimack) was too new to D1 to qualify for NCAA tournament, so FDU who lost 66-67 in the NEC tournament championship game, went instead
- You could even add in the fact FDU's coach said on camera after winning the play-in game (!!!), that one of his assistants said the more he watched Purdue on video, the more he thought FDU could win...

#16 UMBC's victory over #1 Virginia will always be the pioneer for being the first #16 seed to win in Men's March Madness, but it could be said that Fairleigh Dickinson's win over Purdue is the most improbable result in the history of basketball, and maybe even sports period? It certainly has the most crazy storylines!
