Excuse my posting before reading other game or post-game posts, but I didn’t want my comments to be a reaction to someone else’s impression.
History was made in the Women's Final Four today and I think the results were good for women’s basketball. There were great story lines than came to fruition — Clark did not disappoint, Reese came through, Mulkey was Mulkey, and a riled up team from Louisiana defeated a highly touted team from Iowa. The referees kept the teams actions between the lines, ie the rules. Sure, there were controversial calls, but they didn’t change the results dramatically. LSU were inspired, and it would have taken an even more heroic effort by Iowa to win it.
It was fun not to have a skin in the game. I was in awe by the stellar play of both team, and I was able to overcome my usual disdain for Mulkey and enjoy her players stepping up in the big one and winning. Also, I reflected on the Stanford Women's Basketball Team and concluded that they have a of immense proportions challenge if they want to be competitive in the coming years. I think that we have seem our sport sprout wings and become something beyond which we could have imagined — fire power, personnel freed-up to play, and enormous confidence. The sport will be more exciting for it!
