Pretty sure "Team Betts" has the mighty dollar front and center in this decision. They'd be foolish not to. She's the type of player who can really write her ticket at most places. Best of luck, but not good riddance. I was a fan. 

When you're a McD's All American and your peers are making bank and you're not...it's reason enough to leave and go somewhere else. Sure, it's not the only factor, but I do think it's a big factor. Didn't used to be this way, but it is now. Best to get used to it. I don't like it either.

To pile on talking about Tara's mistakes, this was a whopper:

She should have backed Olivia Dunne, told all her players that she was 100 percent behind them and if anyone needed her help building their brand to just let her know. She should have said, "more power to these young women and I am working with our administration to get behind NIL opportunities for all our women basketball players". She should have used it as an opportunity to praise Cam about all her mental health outreach and plugged Haley's podcasts in support of her future broadcasting career. Instead, she acted like a grandma, dissed Dunne, and sent the message to Cam, Haley, and everyone else on the team that they should keep they clothes on and she could really care less about their money making endeavors. If that's how she talked to the players all year long, then yes, she really messed up. It will be really interesting to see where Betts and Nivar land and what NIL deals they have after 3 years.

Anyway, I still think Tara is out of touch and her and Muir have been too slow to adapt to pretty much everything. It is moving fast like technology but Stanford is synonymous with Silicon Valley and fast moving technology. This is not the Stanford way IMO.

I listened to that segment about the Olivia Dunne article and didn't hear Cam defending her or say anything about it being taken out of context at all. Even if she did, Tara had the opportunity to get behind NIL in the NYT but obviously didn't do that. She's not up for this type of fight. As you say, slow to adapt.

Just because Betts has a business inquiry email on instagram, it doesn't mean her focus was on making money while attending classes at Stanford.  If Betts was looking for big NIL she would not have chosen Stanford.  I'm sure coaches recruiting her talked about the kind of NIL she might get at their school.  Tara doesn't even seem to be interested in NIL.

I don't know him/her, but I suspect the person you call a troll knows more about the reasons for Betts transferring than any poster on this board.  I tend to believe him when he says it wasn't so much about big money, but more a general unhappiness about how the season went for her.

Remember, Betts committed in Jan 2021, before NIL deals were even legalized for college players. During her recruitment coaches weren't at all talking about the kind of NIL she might get at their school. Things are way different now than they were even 6 months ago.
