Wilke would be a big "get," maybe a more than adequate replacement for Nivar. Hope her interest in Stanford indicates that she has been or is being told that she can get past admissions. But if it's not Stanford and is Utah, going there makes them every more powerful.
Please help educate me? How can Maty Wilke list Stanford as one of her 5 potential schools to transfer to when so many of you already told me the portal is not a realistic option because of Stanford's rigorous academic constraints. Surely Wilke knows this.
If, on the other hand, the portal is a realistic option because for Stanford to acquire talent (and please explain why), I'd much rather we get Kayla Padilla, the grad student from Penn, who wants to come out West. Much better all-around guard.
I have been making the assumption that we will not get anyone from the portal. Where am I wrong?
Getting transfers in has been very difficult, but not impossible. We got Jordan Hamilton a couple of years ago. Nobody ever said we could not get anyone at all from the portal. The issue is getting enough top players to balance out if top players like Betts and Nivar leave. That will be incredibly difficult unless Stanford makes changes. This is not like almost all other top basketball programs who can just take whoever they want as long as they transfer wants in. Stanford has to get them admitted, which has been difficult. Grad transfers have to get admitted to specific grad programs, some of which have very low acceptance rates. If you follow Stanford sports, surely you know all this, or should.
