People (such as the authors of that quoted NYT bit) like to pile it on by association as if to make their point stronger. The article is behind a paywall so I haven't read it but I wouldn't be surprised if they said something like "Her brother used to smoke Camels." I think of it more as a sign of grasping at straws when you don't have something substantive.
During the investigation of Enron, the FERC collected 600,000 emails authored by 158 individuals from Enron as part of their evidence gathering. Her father was not one of those 158. (22 were convicted as part of the Enron collapse.)
I do see one source indicating he was laid off from Enron.
Yeah, I've dealt with companies that have jerks. One not-to-be-named big company got caught claiming they had done something special that our company had done. But I wouldn't cast every employee as doing that.
Lizzie was far worse than a jerk. Her actions may have killed people.
