SamuelMcF is the guru on how offer pace and quality compares to past years in Stanford recruiting. I will say that in my view the most important thing in Stanford recruiting right now is the series of official visits that will be happening on campus the rest of this month, starting this weekend, and that on paper the 4-star visitors we have lined up look comparable to what Shaw attracted the last two years and better than most Pac-12 programs. Oregon (the dominant recruiting power right now in the conference considering who they already have committed) and USC (slow start to 2024 recruiting but lots of top visitors lined up) are dominating, but Stanford is very squarely in the second tier with Utah and Washington. On one level that’s not a shock as Stanford, arguably along with UCLA, historically belongs in that tier. But on another it’s pretty notable if Taylor can tread water (or better) in recruiting for a year before even demonstrating a turnaround. And if we get two among Elijah Brown, Benedict Umeh, and Dylan Stephenson, as I think we very well may, one would have to be even more complimentary than that.
