On another matter, of the 7 players from Stanford reported to be in the transfer portal, 5 are seniors who one would not expect to see much playing time at Stanford next year (4 because they never have so far, 1 because he's going to be a pro). Assuming they graduate(d), I wouldn't actually consider them transfers at all - i.e. when I started grad school I didn't consider myself to be transferring out of Stanford, merely starting something new.
The other 2 would sting for fans, one a lot the other a little. It's less than the average effect across the NCAA, where division 1 baseball teams average nearly 10 transfer portal entries. Of course the competitive problem for Stanford is that it is pretty much a one-way flow; Stanford has had a few grad transfers in recent years but none who had a real impact.
