Really didn't like sending out Matos for Yaz. The rookie has not been great, but he has held his own for sure, and he seems to have been getting more solid contact. I also felt there was a little spark to his game that was part of the youth exuberance responsible for the 3 game uptick. It's possible sending Matos out so Yaz could come back deflated the team a bit, not because they don't like Yaz, but Matos was one of the youngsters providing the team energy.

Giants finish August 11-16 just like I feared was their ceiling for the month. Turning to September, they have 29 games left to play. What record will they need to eke into the playoffs?  Historically the last NL Wild Card teams aren't too far above .500.  

I will guess giants must go at least 16-13 to finish 85-77 and make the playoffs.

SF v. SD tomorrow (Aug 31).

So sending Matos down and bringing back Yaz deflated the team so much that their three game win streak ended. Yeah. Sure. 

I bet if Matos, as Lex pointed out, had gotten a better jump on that fly last night and saved the no hitter, he might not be headed down. . . .

Perhaps it was a short term maneuver since he has options available (I think he will return as part of the roster expansion in September).

I'll be at the game at Petco Park tonight. Holiday present from my son...never been to Petco, but they seem to have an inordinate amount of Giants fans whenever I see it on television.

Under the category of "players who got away", we can add former All Star and Gold Glove winner 34-year old Adam Duvall, who currently has a slash line of .276/.339/.593/.933 for the Red Sox. He's homered in the last four games and won an American League Player of the Week earlier this year:
