Solid debut. My first impression was that the players showed more energy and intensity than in the waning stretch of the Shaw era. Execution is still not as crisp as it could be, but Hawaii helped us out by making plenty of their own errors and committing a bunch of penalties. No stand-out running back, despite the long run by Filkins. Yurosek and Bailey jointly deserve the game ball. And Karty, as usual, was Mr. Reliable.
Looking forward, I don't think we stand a chance against USC (unless, of course, Taylor has some secret weapon he declined to show this week). As the season progresses, I will be interested to see how injuries take their toll. Obviously, I am hoping that the S&C program has vastly improved and that the roster isn't threadbare by game 7.
Good to see a team that, despite its apparent deficiencies, is playing with fresh energy and shows a lot up upside.
