Nerve-wracking 9-8 win over the Rockies tonight. And that was at Oracle, not Colorado. Matos, Flores, three hits each; HRs by Flores, Haniger, Davis and Sabol. Matos had two doubles. Brebbia got the win (3-0), Doval got his 36th save, Kyle Harrison gave up four runs, three earned in five innings.
Nearly a three hour game (2:53), and 32,448 for a Friday night Colorado
Let’s map out the rest of the season.
2 more with Rockies at Oracle. 2-0 . They have to sweep this series.
3 with Guardians. 2-1. Hate playing an unknown at this juncture.
4 in Colorado. 3-1 - sweep possible. Rockies are putrid. Giants have destroyed them for several years now.
2 in Ariz 1-1. (giving Giants tiebreaker with 7-6 head to head). If they get swept, it’s over.
4 in LA. 2-2. Tough. But Dodgers pitching is reeling.
3 vs Pads 2-1 Pads season over, nothing to play for.
3 vs Dodgers 2-1. Dodgers locked in at 2 seed. More concerned about readying for playoffs.
Total 14- 7. 85 wins. That will get them the third WC.
Doable. Not easy. But doable.
Wow. A quite optimistic look forward. Unfortunately, I cannot be so sanguine. This season has been a major disappointment. In my opinion, the shuffling of players must stop. If it takes new leadership to make that happen, so be it. I think Bruce Jenkins nailed it with this column (Baggerly had some strong observations regarding platooning as well at The Athletic).
