I listened to the interview and my takeaway was that ultimately, Stanford was just the wrong fit for Betts, both basketball wise and socially. I mean, she didn't even get a chance to visit the school before committing. The support she is talking about may or may not have anything to do with basketball at all. Stanford just wasn't a good fit, end of story. A bit sad, considering it was her dream school... but it is what it is. She still seems close to her Stanford teammates, as many of them have commented on her social media posts after she left.

Who knows what happened between Jones and VanDerveer, but clearly something happened. I don't think it was anyone person's fault - just a perfect storm, unfortunately. And I don't think Jones running the point "ruined" her skills - that was the beauty of her game was that she was a point forward. If anything, her lack of a three-point shot, for whatever reason, hurt her game more than anything else. But I digress... the point is, last year the team underachieved and I think it was because of a variety of factors and not just one person.

We also can't assume Jones or Prechtel not being there meant anything regarding her relationship with VanDerveer. Nneka wasn't at the ceremony - does that mean she doesn't respect or like VanDerveer anymore? We don't see their text messages or phone logs, so we have no way of knowing what their relationship is like.
