That's such a gentle example.  Remember some of these athletes are just 18, not that 4 years later that they're much more alert to influence.  (These are all for guys, but that's because I can understand their minds better.)

These are intended to be said (mostly) by a classmate or a friend, whose been influenced, perhaps just as covertly, to entice Joe to do things that will hurt his performance.

1.  "Hey Joe, I've got a set of great videos of some kitties playing together.  I know you, you'll love 'em.  I'll text you the link tonight, while you're stuck in your hotel room...." 
2.  "Hey Joe, we had fun last Sunday.  Listen, I've got some time on my own Friday night.  Too bad you've got a game the next day.  But, hey, why don't we get together online?"
3.  "Hey Joe, that #43 on the other team is a real bully. Let me tell you what he did to my bud Johnnie. If you get a chance, can you knock him silly?"
4.  "Hey Joe, you're really a helluva player.  We really want you for our team next year and will pay big bucks, but we can't take you if you get hurt.  Maybe if you pull up lame early in the game, you won't risk an injury later.  I hear they're brutal."
5.  "Hey Joe, have you tried one of these pills?"
6.  "Hey Joe, tomorrow you're going to be at practice all day and all week preparing for the big game.  Let's get stinking drunk tonight!"
