Question for someone who follows the sport more closely than I do: how is it that Asher Hong (who won the 2023 U.S. all-around title) won three event titles but wasn't in the mix for all-around? Did Stanford have a couple of theoretically better scorers in an event, so he didn't compete in all six rotations or something?
He didn't compete in floor and high bar, likely due to injury.
I'm curious why Khoi competed in the all around but his rings score counted separate from our team score. His rings score was lower than any of the counting scores so it makes sense, but didn't realize you could separate your all arounder's score from your team score.
Hong is nursing a back injury that’s why he only competed in 4 events. IIRC I don’t think he competed in the qualifier. A team can have an all-arounder and not have their score on certain events count towards the team score.
Kai Uemura is one of the top recruits and is coming to Stanford. I think Stanford remains the favorite next year. I wonder if we will see Brandon Briones compete again. He’s been injured for the past 2 years. He was the top recruit in his class. he was with the team
