with all respect, "student athlete never existed." it's a term invented by the ncaa attorney's in the 50s to keep from paying for long-term care for catastrophically injured players. 

I'm so glad that somebody mentioned this.  Also, let's remember that the idea of amateurism in sports was invented ~100 years ago to keep poor and working people out of the olympics and other sporting events.  More here: https://www.vice.com/en/article/gvaqdm/f...mpic-games

The idea of amateurism has always been a tool to keep the rich rich and the poor poor.  This worked very nicely for universities ("the rich" in the last sentence if that wasn't clear) for a long time.  Not anymore, thank goodness.
