Wasn't there a football player a few years ago who quit football but wanted to remain a student at Stanford?  And Stanford said "See ya.  Good luck with your academic endeavors at another university"?  How is that any different than an athlete who transfers out but then wants to come back for their degree after they have exhausted their playing eligiblity?
