Yes, that is a tough comparison, but it is tough because of the relevant external job market, of which fairness is not a characteristic. But in view of her apparent academic chops, perhaps that means she's a person who would be readmitted as a transfer, were that required (and clearly would be if she had eligibility left and wanted to play). I'm not saying she can't come back, she just doesn't get a guarantee.
      I admit I'm an old luddite whose views are orthogonal to today's realities. I just can't separate the educational mission of colleges from their now-professional sports teams. My wish that some things continue to mean what they used to is just that -- wishful thinking.

I too have a hard time separating the educational mission of colleges from their now-professional sports teams. IMO many of us are. I too am unhappy with today's realities. I guess that I am doing the same thing, holding on to a policy that may no longer be appropriate given the changed conditions. I am attached to the idea that getting admitted to Stanford allowed return without conditions, as long as you were in good standing when you left. It was a "feature", not a "bug". In today's reality, that may no longer be true.

If she came back, it would be as an academically qualified student who would be paying her tuition. It doesn’t really relate to any previous policies for athletes.
