guessing here, but she could in theory bring back 90 credits (at least you used to be able to have up to 90 credits from elsewhere).  I would assume whatever degree she was completing she'd have to get that department to agree that she had fulfilled all of their requirements in terms of coursework which may or may not be difficult to do.

According to https://studentservices.stanford.edu/my-...quirements a transfer student must complete a minimum of 90 units at Stanford to graduate. That is half of the 180 unit minimum. They could in theory bring another 90 from their previous school. Of course, Stanford will often not accept units earned elsewhere because they are not "equivalent". This is in fact true with most universities. There is therefore often a "penalty" for earning units at multiple schools. In many cases it is arguably just a way for some schools to make more money.  A non-transfer student must complete a minimum of 135 units at Stanford to graduate, 3/4 of the 180 unit minimum. If someone is "returning" to Stanford (not transferring) presumably the 135 unit minimum would apply.
