Consider the young man who wants to study engineering in college and is also an excellent football player. Why choose Stanford over Texas A&M? 

I hope you aren't an engineer, because if you are I am probably going to make you angry.  Speaking as one I don't see how you can even ask the question. I say this allowing for the fact that Stanford engineering isn't what it was. I agree one can get a perfectly good engineering education at A&M. It is also possible to do so by individual study, but the odds are against it. In a few areas (Petroleum Engineering) A&M is arguably as good or better than Stanford. If you were talking general engineering and MIT you might have a point, but not A&M.
