Sounds like a long i to me. Short i would be slightly closer to correct.
Also anytime someone touches the ball overhead (actual tip, full swing, block touch, or whatever) he calls it a "tip". "Tipped twice" is a phrase you wouldn't hear from anyone else. That typically means a block touch followed by an overhead touch (would you call that a dig or not?) in the back row.
