They probably want a locker room leader (mature presence) and maybe a download of how Stanford does things.  Or maybe he's connected to one of the Auburn coaches somehow.  Maybe he's only getting a partial scholarship.

IMO you are correct about wanting a mature presence. He will be their Lamson and run the wildcat occasionally. Worst case, if their other transfer QB gets hurt Daniels can temporarily function as QB1 without making their other two young guys too mad. He also presumably knows a bit about how to practice and prepare for games. That will undoubtedly help. He will be a grad transfer, and I doubt the scholarship money is an issue.
