I liked Daniels more than some here, but if we aren't going to be a power running team we need a consistent passer to go with our pretty good receiving crew, and to entice good TE's. TT thought he signed "his QB", and now we will see if he was right or not. His time on the Farm most likely depends on him being right. While it is possible that other portal prospects could be admitted to Stanford for spring quarter or later, I am assuming that none of the QB transfers we were pursuing are still in play. Anybody know if that is the case?
Assuming that is the case, I hope the QB that reference to "his QB" is Bear Bachmeier. Given our OL struggles, and the fact we don't have four or more highly sought after OL signed from the portal, I can only assume we will need a QB that is a dual threat. We do have two OL from the portal that may be an upgrade. This might help. However, even if we improved our receiving crew, we almost certainly still can't protect a drop-back passer well enough to make it a viable option. Daniels undoubtedly set a ceiling on how good our team could be with his lack of accuracy (and other things as well) in the passing game. That said, his running ability also set a floor.
If the theory is that Brown is the answer, I worry that the floor will be a lot lower. He is not a dual-threat guy. Bear Bachmeier may have a much higher ceiling and at least a similar floor (as a runner) to Daniels, but he will be a freshman thrown into action. That isn't nearly as unusual as it was in the past, but it still has its problems. Am I correct in assuming this is where we are?
