It appears Kal has landed their desired QB, Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele. It may be that Mendoza left at least partially because Kal was pursuing JKS and had promised him the starting role. Obviously one never knows how good a prospect will turn out to be, but on paper this recruitment looks like an upgrade.

FWIW when JKS was still a Kal commit (the first time) there were rumors on the Kal website that the OC had promised JKS the starting role despite the fact Mendoza was still there and as far as anybody knew at that point would remain at Kal. Supposedly when the word got out that this was the case, it added impetus to Mendoza leaving. There was also the (in)famous telephone call between Mendoza and JKS and all that. Obviously lots of conjecture. After Mendoza left Kal and after JKS was arguably recruited over at Oregon it was indeed reasonable for him to return to Kal. A very volatile situation it seems :-).
