17 fouls to 12 in favor of BC. Officiating really biting in the second half. But we finally got a call.

yes, i was celebrating. i can't remember the last time a call that could have gone either way was called in our favor near the end of the game. of course the refs immediately gave bc a make-up call.

If you were watching on TV or from the east side of Maples, you probably didn't see that Tess's defender had her arm around Tess's neck. The ref, who couldn't notice it from his position, called a jump ball (which he wouldn't have been able to clearly see, either). Even the BC dad sitting next to me agreed it was a bad call.

The person I sit next to is a basketball official--although at the grade school and occasional high school level.  I routinely ask her what call she would have made when I see what I think are bad calls on the court, and she often corrects me and teaches me something about the rules.  However, she agreed that this crew was the worst we have seen all year.  We both noticed some truly atrocious calls that went OUR way, and other really bad calls that went the other way.  These officials seemed to distribute their incompetence "fairly" in both directions, but incompetence it was.

And she'll likely tell you that Tara used Shay's first charge in this game as one of the examples of officiating. Violet Palmer, ref emeritus, said that should have been a blocking foul.
