Very impressive. Turning pro as an undergrad...quite an achievement.
There are two intercollegiate boxing associations for amateurs, the USIBA (United States Intercollegiate Boxing Association) and the NCBA (National Collegiate Boxing Association). Stanford competes in the NCBA / West division along with Cal, UCLA, USC, SJSU, SCU, USF, Air Force, USF, UNLV, Davis, Washington, Oregon State, Boise State, Utah, Sac State, Arizona State and Nevada-Reno.

Not even sure how many years it takes. I was in junior high in Madison, WI when a college boxer (Charlie Mohr, maybe?) died after being clocked in a match. I think UW dropped the sport soon after. It was a very big deal in the local news for quite a while, if I remember correctly.
