In today's DRatings update, Stanford is down to essentially a 7-seed in the NIT projection. If teams were actually seeded exactly as in this projection, a possible 1st round match up would be Stanford at USF (projected as a 2-seed). After all the travel, it would be nice to be able to play locally, if not at home. UC Irvine (2-seed) and Santa Clara (7-seed) are other California teams included in this projection.

given our travel savvy I'm guessing Santa Clara at USF and we get a trip to Irvine
Could be. The NIT has a propensity to maximize attendance AND avoid teams that have played in the regular season. USF and Santa Clara have played twice already and split, SCU crunched them by 23 and lost an OT squeaker 97-94. But of the four, SCU has the smallest seating capacity. Maples has the most (7,233) and UC-Irvine is next at 5,608. SCU and Stanford have already played each other, so I wouldn't be surprised to see USF at Stanford and Santa Clara at UCI.
