RPI is unreliable at the moment and the polls are still biased from last year - but still Stanford's place seems reasonable.
Stanford's resume is a mixture of two good ACC series, plus two series wins and one draw against teams that are currently 6-13, 8-12, 8-13.
Stanford is 8th in the ACC in runs/game, 11th in ERA. There're some things to work on.
On the other side, Stanford sits at #2 in the ACC in fielding percentage. Of course that is a terrible stat to learn anything about defense.
My impression is that Stanford hasn't been a very good defensive team but seems to have picked it up lately.
Really glad to see a stronger outing from Lim. Still didn't have great stuff (4 hits, 5 free passes) but fought and only gave up 1 run. Much better than the previous several outings.
Volchko was off in the direction opposite to what I'm used to - gave up 8 hits but only 1 walk. But he never let it collapse.
Pitching story of the weekend was the bullpen: 10 IP, 0 R, 4 H, 1 BB. Everyone was good. I'll go with Trevor Moore as the reliever of the weekend at 2 perfect innings pitched.
Offense remains well distributed, and we're all psyched to see Sasaki breaking out. 7 of 9 regulars have at least 2 HR.
A little surprised that Hott didn't get another chance this weekend after going 3-5 with 2 HR and 3 RBI against Carolina.
Team has a lot of potential they're just starting to tap - but still a lot of development to go to be Omaha level.
Remain worried about travel. Four east coast trips to go. Of the current top ACC teams we don't play FSU and Louisville, have Wake at home and Clemson on the road. Also have UVa on the road, but given their record so far it's hard to determine if they're really a top ACC team despite still being ranked.
I'm looking forward to the BC series in May. The one benefit of being in the ACC is occasionally Stanford comes to my neck of the woods for conference games.
Yes, congrats to the team, its coaches and Mr. Sasaki. I wonder if a few weeks from now no one will pitch to him. Possible. I thought our pitching and hitting just wouldn't cut it, but I am happily proven wrong up to now. I also wrote off the softball team as a bunch of no hit, no pitch ladies. Again, I happily eat my words.
