Seems like you're beginning to understand why the transfer portal and NIL rules are making a farce out of college sports. What kind of emotional connection is possible between college fans and athletes who come to their school for the money, stay around for a year (thus not getting much of an education), and then the best of them move on to another school team where the pay is better? Is it really enough that the compensated crew are temporarily wearing the jersey of the fans' school or alma mater? IMO, the fan-athlete psychological link is being torn apart. The NYT's "The Athletic" recently had a revealing article about all the money rich Duke alums have coughed up to pay big bucks to their basketball team players, presumably to have bragging rights if they win the Tournament. Why should we be surprised that Duke is once again in the Final Four? I would think it would be a surprise if they weren't. A segment on tonight's PBS news revealed that over 50% of the players on the teams in this year's NCAA tournament were at different schools last year. Comical and pathetic. The appeal of being a fan of a college team is being seriously eroded.
