Giants win their seventh straight game, eighth win overall on Wilmer Flores' game winning single in the bottom of the ninth inning. Final score, 5-4. 

Giants have the best record in major league baseball at 8-1. They are percentage points ahead of the Evil Empire (9-2).

Some nice items:
- Yaz had his first home run, a three run shot.
- Jung Hoo Lee, two more hits, hitting .344.
- Nine strikeouts on the batting side, not too bad.
- Miller and Rogers earned holds.
- 3 for 8 with runners in scoring position. Giants have the best batting average with RISP and two outs of any team in the league.
- Matos stole the Giants' twelfth base in 13 attempts.

Some items of concern:
- Jordan Hicks (2.38 ERA) was raked. He gave up two home runs, four more hits and a walk and hit two batters and gave up three earned runs.
- Second game in a row with an error (Matos)
- Miller and Doval both gave up two hits but the ump had a really tight strike zone...not too bad.
- Doval also had two walks...four batters in one inning reach base. Not good. He had a blown save and "earned" the win.
- Half of the Giants' eight wins have come with the Giants having fewer hits than the other team. Not a good trend.

Logan Webb vs. Hunter Greene, Reds tomorrow at 6:45.

The error on Matos only reinforces the idea of creating a “team error” category.  Had Rodriguez backed up Bailey*, the runners would not have advanced.  IMO, it was unfair to charge Matos with an error. 

* Seeing a major leaguer pitcher fail to back up the catcher on a hit to the outfield with runners on base was something I don’t recall ever seeing.  Fortunately, it didn’t result in a run for the Mariners. 

One additional thought - Robles’ catch in the RF corner was good a catch as I have seen in a long time.  Hopefully, the diagnosis on his shoulder won’t be season-ending….

SF, LA and SD are a cumulative 18-0 v. RH and 7-5 v. LH. They are the only three teams in the Majors that are unbeaten v. RH.
