For the first time all season, Stanford has lost. Wake Forest defeated Stanford in a semifinal match today 3-2.

Paula Martin Sampedro and Andrea Revuelta both won pretty handily, 5&4 and 4&3 respectively. Kelly Xu got rolled by Wake Forest frosh Sandra Lydic 8&6. This was by far the most unexpected result. Xu is a top 25 played in the world. Lydic is not even in the top 1000. But Xu did not make a single birdie while Lydic did not make a single bogey.

So it all came down to the 2 most even matches, Megha Ganne vs. frosh Chloe Kovelesky and Meja Ortengren vs. soph Macy Pate. Ganne had a 3 up lead after 10 holes. But Kovelesky blitzed her over the final 8 holes with 4 birdies and an eagle on the last hole to win 2 up.

In the final pairing, Ortengren was never ahead against Pate. But she did pull all square at the 15th hole. Alas, Ortengren bogeyed 17 and then could not birdie 18. So Wake moves on the finals vs. Florida State.
