Mostly just shock.  He didn’t go in the third round either, despite grading as the second best QB in the draft.

I heard Husak before Day 2 on KNBR.  He nailed it.  Wasn’t particularly high on Sanders.  Not a terrific athlete.  Stats were inflated by a ton of very short throws and great receivers. Doesn’t throw well on run.  Not great pocket presence.

I think because he’s Deion’s son some just assume he’s elite athletically.  He is not.  Husak basically said he has a solid floor , but not a particularly high ceiling. 

Sanders was at 74 percent.  But NFL accuracy and college accuracy are different things.  I remember how “accurate” Marcus Mariotta was at Oregon.  I also remember he had wide open receivers.  Elite speed everywhere.  And threw a lot of passes at or near LOS. His NFL issue has been accuracy.  Sanders is similar in that vein.  

Husak had NO picking Tyler Slough if he was still around.  Better athlete.  Better at planting his back foot and delivering his throws accurately -meaning in stride.  

Husak said the most important tools are the ability to make the right read, set back foot, hit receivers in stride.  

He also said Milroe had a very high ceiling, but was the hardest to gauge.  Tremendous athlete. Will need to get with an organization that can work on his fundamentals.

He didn’t mention Dillon Gabriel. And I suspect the fact that he was picked before Sanders probably would’ve been a bit of a surprise to him. Of course Gabriel had a six year college career so he should be a bit more polished.

Pretty interesting to hear his thoughts. Husak  is an excellent analyst.
