Stanford starts on the 1st tee tomorrow vs. UVA at 6:50 am. You have to start early to fit in two rounds and the NCAA is playing both the quarterfinals and semifinals tomorrow. Stanford played Round 2 and Round 3 at the same early hour.
It's a big day!!! The team has prepared all year to be in the position that they are in now. And they have prepared all year for what is to come, match play, potentially 36 holes in a day right after 72 exhausting holes of stroke play. All the pressure is on Stanford. They have been #1 all year. Can they play at the same level against an opponent that has nothing to lose, no expectations to meet. Players definitely feel pressure.
3 of Stanford's players have been here before, 2 have not. For Virginia, none of their players have NCAA match experience.
The lineups are set.
Match 1 - Paula Martin Sampedro (soph) vs. Kennedy Swedick (frosh)
Match 2 - Meja Ortengren (frosh) vs. Megan Propeck (senior)
Match 3 - Kelly Xu (junior) vs. Jaclyn Laha (soph)
Match 4 - Megha Ganne (junior) vs. Amanda Sambach (senior)
Match 5 - Andrea Revuelta (frosh) vs. Rebecca Skoler (grad student)
Ganne vs. Sambach is the marquee match. They were teammates on the US Palmer Cup team last year. Xu vs. Laha looks like a big advantage Stanford. The Cardinal will need that point. Virginia will take a lot of momentum if Laha pulls off the upset.
It's going to be fun! Golf Channel coverage begins at 9 am.
