Does the higher-seeded team's coach always decide to go first? I think I can conceive of situations in which they might decide to defer for the first match. For example, if the most important thing to them is to ensure one specific player of theirs be in the final match, they can only control that (or risk having them in the second-to-last match) if they defer initially. But in practice, are there ever times when the higher-seeded team has elected to defer for the first match?

Coach Walker absolutely will defer when she thinks that it is strategically advantageous. Let's face it, no one on the planet has more experience than she does at this process.
