Chapman eliminates any need to worry about him playing 3B.  I foresee him playing as the DH in the long run.  In the short term, 1B.

The least of my concerns is his attitude.  The Red Sox weren’t honest with him.  That is a non-issue in an organization that is led by a future Hall of Famer with three rings. Posey understands the importance of straight talk with the players.  

The trade doesn’t change my opinion of Harrison.  I still think he will be a star.  However, the Giants are deep in young pitching and had to part with someone of value to get a player like Devers.   I wish Kyle the best.  As for Hicks, the promises he received from SF (under Zaidi) are now extinct.  I think his starting days are over.  If he embraces the reliever role, he has a chance to really help Boston.  

Tibbs has been on the upswing over the last month.  Like any prospect, no one can say with unquestioned authority that he will become a regular in the bigs.  Time will tell.

Overall, I am excited to have an executive in charge who isn’t afraid of sticking his neck out in an effort to make the team better (especially at the cost of $250 million-plus).

Absolutely agree with all points.

1. Obviously, SF is not going to sit or move Chapman. Chapman is the Giants' best player as measured by WAR (2.9), followed distantly by Robbie Ray and Jung Hoo Lee (2.0). Really heppy that Lee is working out so well, BTW.

2. Didn't realize Boston wasn't honest with Devers, I didn't read that far into the story. Agreed with you re: Posey's candor, stature, etc. I think MLB players will want to come to SF in part for that reason. I think Posey was instrumental in Chapman's signing. And frankly...it may be the best, and only way to get real bombers to come to SF...trade prospects for a substantial star who is young and already under a long-term contract. And I think Devers will do great in SF with the short LF porch. His home run spread is interesting, five to LF, two to dead CF, three to the RF/CF alley and four dead pull in RF. He has 223 career HRs, 202 would have been HRs at Oracle, but he would have between 225 and 263 at all NL West parks.

3. I think both Harrison and Hicks are good pitchers, and hopefully Boston's pitching coaches draw that out of them. And it's too early to say whether Tibbs or Bello will succeed. Suffice it to say, for me, given the Giants' surplus of arms and minor league uncertainties, my opinion is that they got the better of the trade with a 28 year old bomber.

4. Agreed on Tibbs on the upswing. Crushing it over the last month or so. Eight HRs in 83 ABs, 18 RBIs, 19 runs scored, 17 walks and 23 K's, 1.030 OPS. He can play.

5. With his HR yesterday, Daniel Johnson's line is .235/.316/.471/.786. Not bad for a backup. I like him as a 4th outfielder, he's already played all three spots. No errors, great range.

6. Dominic Smith is working out. His line with the Giants is .343/.405/.514/.919, 5 walks, just 7 k's. And Smith is a very good fielder. His 2023 Rtot at 1B for the Nationals led the NL (12), he also led the NL in assists (143) and double plays (134). No errors so far in 10 games, and +1 Rtot.

7. No single player in Giants history has had grand slams in consecutive games. Schmitt is the first. The Giants have had only four games in which two players have hit consecutive grand slams (2015, Tomlinson & Marlon Byrd; 2003, Feliz and Aurilia; 1998 Kent and Snow; 1941 Ott and Harry Danning). Danning was a great catcher, 4x all star.  WWII took his last few years from him.

Giants are off today, I imagine Devers will join them vs. Cleveland tomorrow night. And there's 45 days left to the trading deadline. Maybe Posey isn't done yet.
