The trade doesn’t change my opinion of Harrison.  I still think he will be a star.  However, the Giants are deep in young pitching and had to part with someone of value to get a player like Devers.   I wish Kyle the best.  As for Hicks, the promises he received from SF (under Zaidi) are now extinct.  I think his starting days are over.  If he embraces the reliever role, he has a chance to really help Boston.  

I think Boston thinks the same thing. It wasn't all that long ago that Harrison was the most promising lefty in the minors. And Boston's pitching coach was SF's pitching coach...I don't think he takes either Harrison or Hicks without having a really solid idea of what he's getting. With Hicks and Aroldis Chapman, Boston has both MLB relievers that can throw 103 mph.

And as far as Harrison goes, they sent him to Worcester for two reasons: first is to teach/develop two additional pitches, the cutter and the sinker in addition to the fastball, slurve and changeup. They want him to be in the strike zone twice as much as he currently is.

Second reason? If he's in the minors past July 4, they get an extra year of control on his contract. My guess is they call him up on 7/5 or 7/6.

In a perfect world, he would successfully develop a couple pitches that would complement his fast ball and become a solid #1 SP and Devers would become an MVP candidate.  I hope it happens….
