SF has a lot of B talent in the daily lineup (guys who are solid big leaguers but not good enough to produce numbers on an every day basis).  When B talent goes into a collective funk, even great pitching can’t bail the team out.  Conversely, when there is a collective upswing, you can afford a pitching malfunction.  Hence, the “we are on a roll now” followed quickly by “we just need to put things together” comments that define this season. 

They desperately need a couple A guys (players you can count on to produce day after day) to carry the load while the B talent is up and down.  

I thought Devers would be their first A guy since Posey retired; however, to date, he hasn’t hit his stride.  

Switching from the field to the dugout, I think we going to find out how much influence a manager has on his team.  Given the hand he has been dealt, what can Bob Melvin do to get his team to play more consistent baseball?  The mental lapses (especially on the base paths) we have seen recently are frustrating.  I put the blame for those squarely on the shoulders of the field management group.

Devers tweeked his groin on June 21, which might have been affecting him. I think he might be hitting his stride.
