Here's the body of the email that went out to AD staff. Knowing the people that were laid off, the job titles that you all referenced do not apply to those individuals.
As President Levin and Provost Martinez communicated a few weeks ago, changes in the higher education landscape have significantly impacted universities nationwide. In sight of these changes and ongoing uncertainty about how federal support for universities will evolve, Stanford is significantly reducing the amount of general funds it provides to support operations in the upcoming fiscal year. Consequently, many campus departments - including DAPER - are implementing budget cutbacks; and we are facing the difficult reality that those budget cutbacks require a reduction in staff positions.
There is no easy way to work through the painful process of professionally parting ways. In an effort to limit the duration of that process, we will be communicating with all of the individuals who are impacted by these reductions within the next 48 hours. We will follow up when all the notifications have been completed.
