Luck's determination and smarts are extraordinary. No doubt about it. As was his elite athleticism. My point is that attitude and charisma gets a team only so far--and no further. Jim Harbaugh's success was based on the horses he attracted and developed, quickly. Unless and until a steady supply of elite football athletes want to play for Stanford, the futility we've come to know will prevail. Period. At this moment, unfortunately, the prospect for a return to glory or even relevance is essentially a pipe dream. That's the way it is.
