EUTM did start to reverse the tailspin before he had the horses. The 2007 roster blew donkey balls and 2008 was better but a lot of the bold faced names were still redshirting or cutting their teeth. The truth is that Harbaugh’s tenure was three years of gritty drive, one year of bully horses, and then it was Shaw’s tenure when it’s more accurate to describe us as having the horses.

What was so disappointing about Taylor’s two years was that there was no indication we were making any progress whatsoever toward being a competitive program. We had indications of progress early and often under Harbaugh. I don’t think it’s fair to compare anybody to one of the greatest coaches ever but the point is that when a program is as low as Harris and Shaw left us it’s pretty darn easy to at least directionally start moving in the right direction. It’s extremely difficult to get the velocity Harbaugh achieved, but the idea better days can be ahead is not outlandish or deserving of ridicule. You underestimate Luck’s chances of getting this moving in a better direction.

Ahh, this is making me remember the goal-line stand at USC just before halftime of the Greatest Upset Ever to keep the score at 0-9. That was the first inkling to me that Harbaugh might really be doing special with his ragtag bunch.
