He is a top candidate for the Platinum Glove this year (the best defender, regardless of position, in MLB). Posey knows the value of a premier defender behind the plate. Bailey can hit .230 and still be a big plus for the team.
That's pretty close. Platinum gloves are awarded in each league. There hasn't been a catcher win the platinum glove in the NL since Yadier Molina, who won four between 2011 and 2015. Maybe 2026 will be Bailey's turn, he's won one GG in three years.
Bailey's stats are always interesting. We know that he finished first or second all three years in catching would-be base stealers, and he was first in assists this year among catchers with 57. He played more games this year at 132 -- most in the NL -- that was great, 2nd catcher-double plays with nine. 2nd in passed balls with 8, 4th in errors with 7.
He's a great fielder, best defensive catcher in baseball, 3.2fWAR, and he's cheap. His fielding run value of 30 led MLB by a wide margin. Maybe a new hitting coach will help.
