Fun Fielding Facts.

I can't help but think that fielding is the easiest to turn around in an off-season and spring training, particularly given some of the Giants' sloppiness and poor overall defensive performance. Their pitching and hitting was just above and just below average, but their fielding was atrocious, near the bottom of MLB.

There are some positives, all in MLB position except when noted as NL-only:

Adames led all of MLB with most assists (398) and third most games (158), also third most DPs (76), and 5th best range factor in NL (3.78)
Bailey was the best catcher in the field by most metrics.
Chapman had fifth most putouts at 3B (93), 2nd most DPs (30), 4th best range factor (2.50)...and 4th most errors (13)...4th best fielding % in NL (.961)
Ramos had second most games in LF (154) and 5th most putouts (284), but the most errors (9) as LF and third most of all outfielders. 4th most assists in NL and 4th best range factor.
Jung Hoo Lee had 4th most games in CF (147), 4th most assists (7), Tthird most DPs (2)
Webb had 2nd most assists as pitcher (34), 5th best range factor (1.21) and most DPs (3) tied with Bivens.
Robbie Ray was one of 21 starting pitchers in MLB with zero errors (also former Giants Gausman and Rodon).
Yaz had second most assists in NL (9)

Interesting stats, Mick, especially about Yaz's 9 assists.  I never got the impression that he had a rifle arm, but probably because I wasn't paying close enough attention.

But upon reflection, can OF assists be misleading?  I seem to remember Clemente had close to 40 assists one year early in his career with the Pirates, and never came close again -- probably because word got around not to even try to run on him.

BTW, one of the best things I ever saw on TV as a boy was way back when the Giants played the Dodgers at the LA Coliseum -- Mays went all the way into deep right-center to make a great running catch, then later in the game went into left-center to grab a fast-sinking liner.  Both catches were not too far from the wall. It was on KTVU so the Giants announcers (I think Simmons and Bill King?) just went crazy.  (I looked on youtube but all they have of Willie seems to be the 1954 WS catch off Vic Wertz.)
