Stanford and UW could in theory meet in the semifinals.
Can’t really root against UWash this year, agreed. Except against us.
I hadn’t checked, but Milwaukee already played Michigan St this year - and lost 9-0. Not a typo. My 12-0 might have been too low.
And I am not sure there actually is a true top #1 seed/overall #1 seed and that geography isn’t a bigger part. ND I believe is still the top RPI but Stanford is #1 in the coaches poll, TDS’s poll and Massey, and looking just at RPI it isn’t that clear. We have 6, 8 and 22 in our bracket. ND has 12, 10 and 23 in theirs - and yes that order is correct; FSU is rated higher than the 2 seed Georgetown. And I still like ours better.
Washington btw is 27. Side thought is there are some really weird choices with the 4 seeds based on RPI.
Massey as usual I think is more sensible. There we have in order 12, 10 and 14 which lines up with how I feel about our bracket - good teams but no real contenders. The rest of our seeds are BYU 26, Xavier 22, WF 27, annd Alabama 33. Cal Poly is 91. There are also no UNC-type deep sleepers - see below. So by Massey, we have far and away the worst next best team in our bracket and no obvious spoilers. Again sounds about right.
Other Massey stuff:
- UW is 13 not 27 and the other UW (Wisconsin) is 16 not 23. Suddenly with UCLA at 14, the 4 seeds look reasonable.
- Duke is 3 and FSU is 6 and those are the two I didn’t want in our quarter bracket as a 2 or 3 seed.
- The hilarious sleeper is UNC is 8 in Massey and unseeded in the actual bracket. Maybe we can get an all ACC final. And if I am Tennessee, I am really, really pissed off with my opening 3 seed game.
