This is Stanford. I would like to see Luck approve $500,000 in funding for the development of an AI agent that acts as a real time football analyst. Let's call the AI agent Groot. Once Groot was trained and operational, it would be able to nearly instantly analyze multiple data points and offer up the best offensive or defensive play call at the moment. The data points would include down, distance, field position, available offensive and defensive personnel, weather conditions, game score, game clock, team record, etc, etc, etc. Data from opponents would be fed to Groot, including all data from the opponents previous games to analyze trends and tendencies. This data would be compiled by staff members watching the games of every opponent (unless a statistical feed was available). During games, a team of data recorders would input game data into Groot. Groot's proposed plays would be communicated to the play calling coach via headset. One, two, or three proposed plays could be communicated and the coach would make the final decision.
Properly trained, Groot could take into consideration individual players having good or bad games. For example, if our left tackle is getting beat on every play by their defensive lineman, Groot would use that information in its analysis. Another example is if their star coverage cornerback comes out of the game, Groot would use that info to look at favorable passing routes. Of course, getting data this granular would require a large team of data recorders, each with specific observational assignments. Perhaps these could be students that would receive credits for their participation.
