On Ailey’s goal, why did the Duke wall turn their heads away? Had they kept their heads erect one of them would have blocked the shot

Perhaps, but it would have hurt.

It’s really close but I don’t think so. Regardless, you aren’t asking the wall to take it in the face - you just don’t want anyone ducking. At worst the wall did 99% of what is was supposed to do. That is Aikey just hitting an elite free kick.
