A grind of a game with Nunu struggling.  She did keep working and ended up with 12 points and 9 rebounds.  Importantly, Coach Paye made the right adjustments and the team started denying the easy positioning and passes to Walker.  They also double, even triple teamed her during some of her possessions.  That stopped the bleeding.  Having Ogden being aggressive and making shots all game was great to see in this game and hopefully is a sign of things to come.  The rest of the team turned up their defensive intensity during much of the second half and held Cal to under their typical scoring percentages.  

The freshman players had a rough game.  Somfai did the best but had moments of trying to do too much and getting beat on defense.  She needs to be in the game and Coach Paye played her over 30 minutes along with the rest of today's best five (Agara, Ogden, Lepolo, and Clardy).  Swain continues to struggle with her shot but still played 17 minutes.  I think that was right for this game.  Coach Paye has to balance the development of young players to give them time to grow but not destroy their confidence.  I think Swain will start finishing better once she adjusts to the speed, size, and mostly, the physicality of college play.  This was a good win for the team's development.  Hopefully, they continue to improve over the next two tough games.
