This guy is pretty good. So is Cameron Boozer. They now sit atop the all-time ACC freshman scoring averages. These are all in the the 3-ball era. Mark Price had a great freshman year and the ACC used an experimental 3-point shot during that season at 17 feet, 9 inches. It was a key factor in NC State's run to the '83 ACC title, which propelled them to winning it all. As the team improved around him (Price) and the ACC discontinued the 3-point line his scoring averages fell to 15.6, 16.7 (ACC player of the year), and 17.4 (Naismith Award Finalist) ppg. Interesting that the list is exclusively schools from North Carolina and two schools I attended that are not in North Carolina.
1. Ebuka Okorie.....Stanford.....2025-26.....23.1 ppg
2. Cameron Boozer.....Duke.....2025-26.....22.7
3. RJ Barrett.....Duke.....2018-19.....22.6
4. Zion Williamson.....Duke.....2018-19.....22.6
5. Marvin Bagley III.....Duke.....2017-18.....21.0
6. Kenny Anderson.....Georgia Tech.....1989-90.....20.6
7. Mark Price.....Georgia Tech.....1982-83.....20.3
8. Caleb Wilson.....North Carolina.....2025-26.....19.8
9. Jabari Parker.....Duke.....2013-14.....19.1
10. Tyler Hansborough.....North Carolina.....2005-06.....18.9
Comparing to some of the all time freshman scoring greats in ACC history:
Johnny Dawkins.....Duke.....1982-83.....18.1 ppg
Michael Jordan.....North Carolina.....1981-82.....13.5
Phil Ford.....North Carolina.....1974-75.....16.4
David Thompson.....NC State.....1972-73.....24.7
The ONLY reason David Thompson (still the best basketball player I've ever seen) isn't the freshman record holder, is because that was the last year freshmen were ineligible and he was in his second year in Raleigh and technically a sophomore. His freshman average, which doesn't "count"? A staggering 35.6 ppg!
So the real list could be:
1. David Thompson, '72
2. David Thompson, '73
3. Ebuka Okorie, '26
Holy cow. If Stanford can keep him, arrow up.
