Stanford baseball now has a 2-game winning streak, although they had yet another difficult time closing out a game in the 9th inning. Up 9-4, Stanford P Mike Erspamer gave up a walk and a single. Closer Colt Petersson came in and promptly gave up a 3-run HR. Fortunately, CP settled down and retired the next three Pitt batters.

Stanford has given up 7 or more runs in the last 8 games. Put another way here are the ERAs of Stanford's starting pitchers in our first 17 games:

Keenan, Aidan 6.23, 4

On the bright side, Jimmy Nati has been swinging the bat like we knew he could, so Stanford has a better chance of winning a few more high-scoring games.

Gomez has pitched 3 scoreless innings so far in game 2. It’s kinda neat to watch his ERA tick down in real time with every recorded out, now “all the way” down to 7.36!

Gomez gave way to O’Harran after his 3IP. Unfortunately, O’Harran gives up a 2-out 2-run HR, followed by a back-to-back to another Pitt player. Now we trail 5-7.
(Each team had back-to-back homers today.)

I seriously think Esquer. needs to consider finding a new pitching coach. Eager is too caught up in having his kids in the dugout than actually doing his job. Volchko and Scott jump ship. They seem to be doing OK at Georgia. This team can score runs, but are deflated when the pitchers cannot throw a shut down inning.

At this point, who would take the job? The downward spiral has already begun.
