If you read the linked article it’s because the baseline is the 20-year average SP+ average, which includes some great years from 2008-2015, so last year’s rating is 17.5 pts below the long term average. The expectation we will be better is solely an expectation of some reversion to the long-term mean and not a comment on Protchard’s hiring.

Even if Pritchard is an average coach, the idea is that Taylor's teams were underperforming the talent, which I think is what Bill C. is intimating. I didn't want to go negative immediately, but I think that's the main takeaway.
