That's correct, the 1V8 result would have given Texas the team championship regardless of the V4 finish.  You can think of the V4 result along the lines of Jordan Williamson's missed Fiesta Bowl FG...unexpected, but part of the sport.  Second place is still a remarkable finish, especially ahead of proven talent from Tennessee and upstart Virginia.

I'm not sure if the Williamson missed FG is the best analogy. Williamson makes it, we win the Fiesta Bowl, there is no OT. 

Why is it surprising/remarkable that we beat Tennessee and Virginia? We were the reigning NCAA champs and have finished in the top 2 every year since 2021. I would say we're the proven talent and are disappointed we did not defend the NCAA title.
