This happened last week? How is it just news now?

Thankfully, he, and whoever else were involved,  appear to be recovering. . . .

so looking at the Palo Alto police log it looks like the accident was ~6:13pm on July 14th, at (or near) the intersection of Hamilton and Alma.  While cars can move briskly on ALma, not so much on Hamilton.  I wonder if one car was turning right onto Alma and was hit my the second one, of course in that scenario I have a hard time seeing neither party getting a ticket.  Breaking a nose, three ribs, getting a concussion, and forty stitches sounds like a pretty big impact if it was two cars, I wonder if he was on a bike.

given the lag between the event and the report appearance on the og it appears there was some sort of investigation as they say on the page

The Police Report Log is produced by staff in our Records Unit every business day.  Each log contains information on police reports processed the previous day, though the log produced on Mondays will also contain information on police reports processed on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The log can also contain information on reports from previous dates that had not been previously processed for various reasons. Most typically, this occurs when the report has been the subject of ongoing investigation. 

Doubt he might've been on a bike as that stretch of Alma is not at all conducive to bike traffic - most bike traffic will cross Alma either via the University underpass, the larger crossing at Channing (we lived at Channing at Homer - fondly referred to as the corner of Carol and Simpson - so this was my main route to work on campus) or at Lytton - bike traffic on Alma itself is otherwise virtually non-existant.  If the accident was indeed at Hamilton & Alma, keep in mind SB cars on Alma are just coming around a somewhat blind curve at University + there's a Caltrain lot exit at Hamilton which adds to the confusion around there, so yeah - I can see a vehicular crash if one wasn't familiar with that stretch.  Either way, I do agree it's weird neither party received at ticket.

I doubt it to, just trying to figure out how one driver is uninjured and the other has a broken nose, rids, hand, concussion and over forty stitches.  Only thing I can think of is being t-boned at an intersection but that would almost certainly have at least one driver cited for something...

Shanahan broke his nose, three ribs and his hand, needed more than 40 stitches in his face, and suffered a severe concussion during a July 14 car crash when he collided with an SUV near his northern California home, according to sources familiar with the situation.

"he collided with an SUV" is a little ambiguous about if he was in a car/SUV/truck or ????
