I suppose we were due to have a game where it was clear a bunch of key players were missing.

- in the first half the forwards were universally miserable, crowned by Thomas missing an open net by a mile early in half 2. In the second half, Holden was excellent including the second goal. Winn was somewhat better in half 2, but she is interesting to watch. She is a very long strider and is scary running at you or behind you, but she isn’t that effective in small spaces or back to goal.
- Marinos skied a second open net chance with seconds left to win the game. Sigh.
- I wouldn’t play Grillione beyond garbage time. She remains a turnover machine. The first USC goal was off a loose pass to Bray - though Bray was soft to the ball and had 2 more chances to shut the attack down; so it wasn’t all on Grillione.
- Kohler was the best player on the field by a mile. 
- First meaningful minutes for Emri and minus an immediate turnover, she looked good. She hits an elite long ball out of the back that I haven’t seen from anyone else on the team.
- Bray did some good things but has to toughen up on defense. See goal 1 comments above, and she was heavily involved in the second USC goal. She got beat first badly, then Williams got beat around the end line, somebody (SLS? Freer? Can’t tell with the tight switching cameras) lost her mark, and finally Stewart can’t get beat near post on a shot that soft.
- Williams struggled top to bottom. Rough defense and she wasn’t able to integrate into the attack at all.
- SLS got pulled with about 25 minutes left when Emri came on and Young moved to DM. I am curious if that was tactical or injury? I wouldn’t have rated her as a key defensive issue, but again it’s hard to tell on TV. Really would be nice to get Bhuta back.
